North Carolina Project Spotlight
Commercial Steel Building Aerial Tour
This Spotlight features a barn style retail metal building for the folks at Big Red’s Bed & Biscuit doggy daycare and boarding facility. A 29′ x 76′ gambrel frame main building is flanked by two 16′ fully enclosed leantos.
The striking red color is accented by white wainscoting and white trim. Decorative barn style doors and custom exterior lighting add to the visual appeal of this project.
The History of Cary
Originally settled as “Bradford’s Ordinary”, Frank Page is credited with founding Cary after buying 300 acres of land with his wife in the area in 1854. Page immediately named their new development “Cary” after a congressman from Ohio (Samuel Cary).
Cary was a temperance movement leader that Page admired and followed. Page got to work immediately and laid out the first streets for the town, built a general store, hotel and post office (to which he was the first Postmaster).
When the town was officially incorporated in 1871, it was no surprise that Page was the first Mayor. Originally Cary was misspelled with an “e”, and later corrected to avoid confusion. The town grew and benefited handsomely from the arrival of several rail lines in the area.
Today, Cary is a city with a population quickly approaching 200,000 and is included in what is referred to as the “Research Triangle Park” or simply “Triangle”. With nearly 2/3 of it’s residents having an associates degree or higher, it is no surprise that it’s largest employer is data analytics software company SAS.
