Florida Project Spotlight
Retail Metal Building on Islamorada
This Spotlight features a retail metal building in The Florida Keys for the folks at Ocean Gardens. The project featured custom shaped windows on the gable ends to allow for as much light as possible inside the store and custom below eave canopies on the street facing sides.
Comfort and cooling costs dictated the use of high-r banding insulation in the roof which was left exposed for effect. Exposed HVAC ducting and custom nautical themed lighting add to the appeal of the interior. Custom finishes and quality interior buildout helped to make this project a stunning success.

Commercial Steel Building Erecting
This Spotlight features a time-lapse video of the erecting of the Coppertail Brewery in Tampa. The 67′ x 179′ building with an eave height of 31′ easily provided space for brewing equipment, while meeting the wind load requirements of the Florida Building Code.
Partial walls for masonry and a trolley beam for a 4 ton crane add to the complexity of this project. High-r banding insulation help to minimize building cooling costs while providing a comfortable environment. Be sure to check out the building when you visit the Coppertail Brewery and enjoy some of the mastery of their craft!
The History of Fort Lauderdale
Named after a series of forts built by the United Stats during the Second Seminole War, Fort Lauderdale was known by the name “New River Settlement” before the 20th century. Fort Lauderdale is the county seat of Broward County and one of the most populated cities in Florida.
As did many cities in Florida, Fort Lauderdale exploded in growth during the 1920’s Florida land boom. The hurricane of 1926 and Great Depression was the cause of a period of economic decline. During WWII, Fort Lauderdale became a major US base and a Coast Guard station was also established.
Nicknamed the “Venice of America”, Fort Lauderdale has some 165 miles of inland waterways throughout the city. As a result, both the recreational marine industry and cruise industry play an important role in the local economy. With over 50,000 yachts in over 100 marinas, some refer to it as the yachting capital of the world. An estimated 4 million cruise passengers pass through the port every year, making it the third largest cruise ship port in the world.
Fort Lauderdale’s pristine beaches also play an important role in the local economy with them attracting large numbers of college students during spring break.
