This Spotlight features a barn style retail metal building for the folks at Big Red’s Bed & Biscuit doggy daycare and boarding facility. A 29′ x 76′ gambrel frame main building is flanked by two 16′ fully enclosed leantos.
The striking red color is accented by white wainscoting and white trim. Decorative barn style doors and custom exterior lighting add to the visual appeal of this project.
The History of Statesville
Originally called Fourth Creek Congregation, that name came from the fact that the area was simply the fourth creek away from the neighboring settlement. European American immigrants from Germany and Scotland originally migrated to the area.
Immigrants were attracted by the areas fertile soil, plentiful game, and creeks filled with fish. In 1788, the state legislature created a new county (Iredell) named after Justice James Iredell, an associate justice of the first Supreme Court during the presidency of George Washington.
After creating the new county, Fourth Creek Congregation was selected as the the place for the county seat and it was renamed “States Ville”, its population was less than 100 at the time. The name was later corrected (combined) to the current day Statesville.
Early 19th century saw the railroad come to town, which resulted in significant growth for the area. Additionally, like many towns in North Carolina, Statesville made a transition to tobacco as the leading crop and actually lead the state in production for a period of time.
