Commercial Steel Building Aerial Tour
This Spotlight features a barn style retail metal building for the folks at Big Red’s Bed & Biscuit doggy daycare and boarding facility. A 29′ x 76′ gambrel frame main building is flanked by two 16′ fully enclosed leantos.
The striking red color is accented by white wainscoting and white trim. Decorative barn style doors and custom exterior lighting add to the visual appeal of this project.
The History of Winston-Salem
Sometimes referred to as the “Twin City”, the name today is simply the result of the 1913 union of separate cities Winston and Salem. Salem’s name was taking from the word “Shalom” (meaning peace) and Winston was named after a local Revolutionary War hero Joseph Winston.
The joined city is also referred to by some as “Camel City” in a nod to the fact that it is home to R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company’s Camel brand of cigarettes. Most locals truncate the hyphenated name to simply “Winston”. The Reynolds family had a large influence in the area and employed a significant portion of the town in its cigarette factory.
While not anywhere near water, Winston-Salem was designated as a “port of entry” by the U.S. government due to the staggering amount of cigarette paper and tabacco R.J. Reynolds imported from the European continent.
In a far departure from tobacco, early in the 20th century, Winston-Salem was home to the very first Krispy Kreme doughnut shop and it is currently home to Krispy Kreme corporate headquarters.
